INGLEWOOD, Calif. (January 17, 2012)—California breds Acclamation and Amazombie were among the winners when the Eclipse Awards were announced January 16 in Beverly Hills.

A two-time winner of the Charles Whittingham and Jim Murray Memorial Handicaps at Hollywood Park, Acclamation was honored as the champion older male.

Owned by Thomas Sanford and trainer Bill Spawr, Amazombie was selected champion male sprinter, primarily due to his victory in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint last Nov. 5 at Churchill Downs.

A 6-year-old gelded son of Northern Afleet and the In Excess mare Wilshe Amaze, Amazombie has won nine of 22.

Trained by Don Warren for breeders Bud and Judy Johnston and Peter and Mary Hilvers, Acclamation has nine wins in 28 attempts. He’s a 6-year-old son of Unusual Heat and the Silveyville mare Winning in Style.

In addition to his victory for older male, Acclamation was runner-up in two categories, finishing behind Cape Blanco for male turf horse and Havre de Grace for Horse of the Year.

Owned by Rick Porter’s Fox Hill Farm and trained by Larry Jones, Havre de Grace became the third consecutive filly or mare to win Horse of the Year honors, following Rachel Alexandra (2009) and Zenyatta (2011).

Havre de Grace won five of seven in 2011, including a beating of the boys in the Woodward Stakes last September at Saratoga. The 5-year-old daughter of Saint Liam was also champion older female.

Other winners included: Hansen (2-year-old male), My Miss Aurelia (2-year-old filly), Animal Kingdom (3-year-old male), Royal Delta (3-year-old filly), Stacelita (female turf horse), Musical Romance (female sprinter), Black Jack Blues (steeplechaser), Ramon Dominguez (jockey), Kyle Frey (apprentice jockey), Bill Mott (trainer), Ken and Sarah Ramsey (owner) and Adena Springs (breeder).
