Jockey Quotes

MARTIN PEDROZA, VIA VILLAGGIO, Winner: “It was a beautiful trip. When I saw that filly (Sister Moon) getting out, I thought maybe Garrett (Gomez) was just setting me up to get in there, but I could see she kept drifting out. I didn’t want to take any chances on getting stopped, so I got up inside when I could. It was better to take a chance and move a little early rather than having to check and lose my momentum.”

GARRETT GOMEZ, SISTER MOON, Second: “I can only ride them if they go straight. From the time I left the gate she wanted to drift with me. I couldn’t get her any closer to the fence. You could see her on the turn, her head was turned sideways. I couldn’t hold her in there anymore without taking too much away from her. Turning for home, I let her go to the middle of the race track, thinking that maybe she’d run. I even went to the last resort of hitting her left handed, but there really wasn’t a lot there. She didn’t run horrible, just not the way she was expected.”

Trainer Quotes

JERRY HOLLENDORFER, VIA VILLAGGIO, Winner: “This filly got in trouble last time, so it was hard to gauge what she might or might not do today. I wanted to try her on the main track at Betfair Hollywood Park. We thought she was training well on it so we gave it a try and it looked like it worked pretty well. One thing about the riders here, you can go pretty deep, and that guy (Pedroza) is about the most underrated rider on either coast. She’ll probably run next in the (Grade II, $150,000 Hollywood) Oaks (June 23). I scratched Killer Graces because I had a little problem with her and thought I was rushing her back too soon. I want to get a few more pounds on her and go from there.”

JOHN SADLER, SISTER MOON, Second: “Disappointing, that’s all I can say. I don’t know what to think. Just disappointing.”
