Jockey Quotes

JOE TALAMO, COST OF FREEDOM, Winner: “That was unbelievable. I thought he’d win but not like that. He broke great today. It seems one race he does and another he doesn’t. As long as he keeps winning, it doesn’t matter. It seems every spot they pick is a winning one. I’ve been on a couple of horses who set track records, but not that easy.”

Trainer Quotes

JOHN SADLER, COST OF FREEDOM, Winner: “Everyone was asking why, why, why we were running here. The reason is that he loves this track. We’re going to dirt and we don’t know if he’ll love that. He’s seven, turning eight and he’s in good shape so we thought we’d just need a little kind of a pick up. It’s kind of a gutsy move because it doesn’t always work, but he handled it beautifully today. I didn’t even breeze him for this race, I just galloped him into it. At five-eighths I didn’t have do any training with him. Now he’s got a good spacing for the Palos Verdes, or the Sunshine Millions. They’re a week apart.”

Notes: Cost of Freedom ran the five furlongs Saturday in 56.14, bettering the previous Cushion Track record of 56.68 set by Necessary Evil May 31, 2009…Cost of Freedom has won five of nine over Cushion Track…The $150,000 Palos Verdes Stakes, a Grade II, will be run Jan. 22 and the $200,000 Sunshine Millions Sprint Jan. 29. Both are at six furlongs over the new dirt surface at Santa Anita.
