Jockey Quotes

RAFAEL BEJARANO, EXECUTIVEPRIVILEGE, Winner: “As soon as we broke from the gate, I put her right behind horses and got her into a good position. I knew all I had to do was wait because at the end I was going to have a lot horse. The race was over as soon as we hit the stretch and I let her run.” Asked if this race was more impressive than first career start: “I think so because she was more prepared today and she was doing really well before the race. I am really happy.’’

JOE TALAMO, SPEEDINTRUTHECITY, Second: “I had a perfect trip, just got outrun. For her second career start, she is definitely getting there. She is stakes placed. Hopefully we will have some fun with her this year.”

KEVIN KRIGGER, MISS EMPIRE, Third: “My trip was not the best, I was down inside. Most of them got a running jump on me. When she got running, I was shaking her. She still ran well.”

Trainer Quotes

BOB BAFFERT, EXECUTIVEPRIVILEGE, Winner: “I didn’t want her on the lead. I said if she breaks, fine, just don’t put her on the lead. Just sit there and let her learn something. I could tell (Bejarano) was sitting there with so much horse. Then I thought at the eighth pole when it opened up, now we’ll know what’s she made of. It’s so tough to win the second time out and coming back so quickly (16 days). She was actually short her first time, so that race really helped. I just think she’s really gifted. From day one when we breezed her I remember calling (co-owner) Mike (Pegram) and saying I think we have a female version of Lookin At Lucky. It’s been a little dry spell for these owners. I wasn’t going to run her in this race and then I worked her Monday and she really breezed well. Hopefully, I won’t have to do too much with her (at Del Mar). She’ll come back in the ($150,000, Grade III) Sorrento (Aug. 8) if she’s doing well. The main thing is the Breeders’ Cup (Juvenile Fillies Nov. 2 at Santa Anita). She’s like Silverbulletday. Those kind are just gifted.”

PETER MILLER, SPEEDINTHRUTHECITY (Second) and MISS EMPIRE (Third): I’m really happy, I thought both of my fillies ran well. Speedinthruthecity was doing a little weaving in the lane because she’s still a little green. In fact both of them are still green. On to the Sorrento.with both of them. We’ll see if the winner is as good at Del Mar.”
