RAFAEL BEJARANO, BOOTLEG ANNIE, Winner: “She broke so good and was going so comfortable I was confident the whole way around. I thought the five (Spinning Yarns) might go, but actually it was pretty smart by that jockey to take back. It gave both of us a chance to win and we wound up running one-two. My mare’s just a real pro.”
JOEL ROSARIO, SPINNING YARNS, Second: “Paco (Gonzalez) told me just to let her come out of there on her own. If she makes the lead fine, but if not just get her to relax. We had a perfect trip tracking the winner. At the quarter pole I thought I had her, but she just ran away from us.”
GARRETT GOMEZ, BEL AIR SIZZLE, Fifth: “She didn’t break, but she does that every time. I don’t think she’s ever come out there good. She really wasn’t getting across the turf well anyway. We never could get within four of five lengths of them.”
KATHY WALSH, BOOTLEG ANNIE, Winner: “I thought Rafael (Bejarano) did a great job. He slowed them up enough at the first part of the race and basically nobody really went with him. She could be anywhere I think. She is just stone cold honest and gives everything she has every time. We’re going to give her a rest right now; we’ve been running her all the time.
