Jockey Quotes

JOEL ROSARIO, AMAZOMBIE, Winner: “He’s a good one. He just goes out and does his job every time. He broke a little to the inside, but he’s a big boy and it didn’t take him long to get his momentum going. He likes to run on the lead or close to the pace and 45 and change (45.89 for the half-mile) is real comfortable for him. I had a lot of confidence the whole way. He was strong all the way to the wire.”

MARTIN PEDROZA, QUICK ENOUGH, Second: “He ran a heck of a race. It’s tough coming back after running in another country. That’s why I rode him the way I did. If he didn’t make that trip, I probably would have put him on the lead. I had my choice to either get up in there or get out, and I chose to get out to save some horse for the end. I think if I would have put him in front, he might have won, I really do. At least he would have given him a better battle.”

Trainer Quotes

BILL SPAWR, AMAZOMBIE, Winner: “He broke a little sideways, a little slow, but (Rosario) put him right in the race. He’s a neat horse, you can put him anywhere you want. Mentally and physically, mentally especially, he just trains like he’s a pony and relaxes so much. Before we gelded him, it would take four of us to saddle him. He just gets better and better. Mike Smith will probably be back aboard next time. We didn’t know until the day before entries he was going to be out of town. He’s been working the horse and comes to visit him all the time. He just loves the horse. Right now we’ll just enjoy this and I want to give him a little of a break. The way he handled the track here today, we might just wait and run him in the ($250,000) Triple Bend (Handicap July 2).”

Notes: Quick Enough had finished eighth in the Al Quoz Sprint March 26 at Meydan Race Course in the United Arab Emirates….The Triple Bend would be the first start in a Grade I for Amazombie, who is owned by Spawr and Thomas Sanford….Mike Smith was at Aqueduct Saturday to ride Astrology in the $150,000 Jerome Stakes. Astrology finished second as the 2-1 second choice.
