Jockey Quotes

PATRICK VALENZUELA, QUICK ENOUGH, Winner: “I knew the leader (Lt. Hopeful) had a lot of speed but I thought he’d come back to me. He lasted a little longer than I thought. Turning for home I knew I had the leader, I just didn’t know who was going to come running from behind. When I went to throw a cross, he picked it up and when I went to hit him left handed he really picked it up. and started to draw away. Very nice.

VICTOR ESPINOZA, SCENIC BLAST, Third: “I had a good trip. Turning for home, I thought he was going to keep going, but he just went steadily to the wire. I thought he was going to have a stronger kick.”

Trainer Quotes

DOUG O’NEILL, QUICK ENOUGH, Winner: “Well, we’re in (the Breeders’ Cup). Now all we need is for one of these guys (owners Michael Bello, Russ Sarno and Pablo Suarez) to write a big check. Other than that, it’s a strong possiblity he’s going to go. We had talked to the Sarno’s and the Suarez’s that if he won today and came out of it good, that they would be okay writing a check. He’s such a cool horse. He’s very game and brings it every time. What can you say, Patrick (Valenzuela) rode him great and he beat a nice field. This was not an easy field. And he did it the right way. “

Notes: The Morvich win was the first for both O’Neill and Valenzuela…Valenzuela’s last Oak Tree stakes victory before Monday was aboard Romance Is Diane in the California Cup Juvenile Fillies on Oct. 28, 2006….His last stakes score at Hollywood Park prior to the Morvich was aboard Curiously Sweet in the Cat’s Cradle Handicap on Dec. 21, 2007.
