Jockey Quotes

VICTOR ESPINOZA, BAJAN, Winner: “She’s going in the right direction. She’s very easy to ride and when I ask her to go she’s quick, really fast. It’s nice to ride horses like that. She’s such a nice filly right now and she’s still learning. She’s going to be a real nice filly.”

MARIO GUTIERREZ, FOR EMMA, Second: “We broke well and she relaxed for me. She may have lost a little interest, but she picked it up again on the turn. I think she’s going to be real good.”

JOE TALAMO, LEMON DE ORO, Third: “I couldn’t have had a better trip. We were walking up there. My only concern before the race was drawing the rail, but that didn’t bother her at all. She might have gotten a little tired, but she came on again to get third. I think once she goes a little longer, she should be OK.”

Trainer Quotes

SIMON CALLAGHAN, BAJAN, Winner: “It went to plan. We took back and the good thing about her is she’s so rateable and so sensible. She just sits back and travels and she has that turn of foot. I think we’ll definitely consider the (Grade I, $500,00-guaranteed Hollywood) Starlet (Dec. 7) now. She galloped out strong and we’re picking up the distance steadily. She’s shown she is a really good filly.”

DOUG O’NEILL, FOR EMMA, Second: “I thought she ran dynamite. She’s got a great mind and great stride. I really think as the races go farther, as long as she stays injury free, we’re going to see more from her. We’ll see how she comes out of the race, but I was impressed. I like the way she was still coming on at the end. She’s got a bright future.”
