Jockey Quotes

RAMON DOMINGUEZ, MORE THAN LOVE, Winner: “I didn’t really get any instructions. They just told me to play it by ear. My filly broke forward and I just stalked the leader. She was going real easily out there. I watched the replay of her last race in New York (Oct. 9 at Belmont Park) when she broke her maiden. I knew today’s race was a step up, but at the same time that was the case for everybody else. She looked just as good as anybody in there, for sure.”

VICTOR ESPINOZA, STARSHIP FLARE, Second: “She ran well. What was she, 20 or 30 to one (29-1)? The one I got beat by was the favorite, so I can’t feel too bad. The winner was right next to me the whole way around. For a minute, I thought I was going to win, but the wire came up one or two jumps too late. My filly was trying so hard, she ran great.”

Trainer Quotes

JOHN TERRANOVA, MORE THAN LOVE, Winner: There were no representatives from the stable available.

KRISTIN MULHALL, STARSHIP FLARE, Second: “She ran great. We’re so proud of her. We just got her, so we’ll take a step back and see where we are. We’ll probably run during the winter but we don’t have a race picked out yet.”

Notes: The win was the fifth with 10 Turf Festival mounts for Dominguez, who had five winners Thanksgiving Day at Aqueduct…Shippers have won the Miesque six of the last seven times it has been run, including both divisions in 2004…Terranova, who is based in New York, won the Grade I Hollywood Starlet with Laragh in 2008.
