Jockey Quotes

ALONZO QUINONEZ, PREMIER PEGASUS, Winner:“He always surprises me. He’s learning and learning every race. The first time, he broke and wanted to go because I had horses inside and outside of me. The second and third time was better because I just had horses on the inside and he was just waiting for them. When I asked him, he just took off. I wanted to get the jump on them before they came to me. I was just showing him the whip, I wasn’t hitting him hard.”

*RAFAEL BEJARANO, INDUSTRY LEADER, Second:*“I was happy with his race. There was a lot of pressure at the beginning and the winner was going easy. He’ll be alright in time.”

JOEL ROSARIO, HIGH LEVEL JEFF, Fifth: “The winner broke so fast and I had to check a little bit out of there. I tried to make him relax, but he didn’t want to. I took a little hold and he started throwing his head.”

MYUNG KWON CHO, PREMIER PEGASUS, Winner: “I raced the dam of this horse (Squall Linda). She changed my life (Cho also owned and trained half brother Street Hero). I have two possibilities for the ($750,000-guaranteed CashCall) Futurity (Dec. 18), this colt and Riveting Reason. It would be a dream to win that race. I’m not certain yet what I’m going to do. We’re eventually looking at the turf with this horse.”

KRISTIN MULHALL, INDUSTRY LEADER, Second: “I think he ran well. That horse was just hard to get by. He definitely has a lot of room to improve. I think he’ll be a lot better going two turns. We ran him back a little quick off that first race.”

NOTES: The last horse to win both the Hollywood Prevue and the Futurity was Declan’s Moon in 2004….Street Hero won the 2008 Norfolk Stakes at Santa Anita…
