Jockey Quotes

COREY NAKATANI, COMMA TO THE TOP, Winner —“I was trying to keep my horse comfortable as can be. He was great where he was at. I tried to kick clear of them like I did. He’s a very talented horse and I was happy to see him go from dirt to turf to whatever they throw at him. It’s a good thing to have in a horse. He’s got that natural high cruising speed and that’s what makes him a dangerous horse. We’re going to have a lot of fun with him.”

BRICE BLANC, MOMENT OF WEAKNESS, Second: “I had a great trip. He broke nice and settled down nice in the pocket. He was a little green on the turn when they picked it up. It took him a few strides to get in gear and he finished up pretty well. (Trainer) Jamie (Lloyd) told me he’s game and he was right. Once I got him between horses he showed a lot of heart.”

JOE TALAMO, SURREY STAR, Third: “He was just getting warmed up. What impressed me so much is that after the wire he was rolling. I think each and every race he’s going to get better and better.

Trainer Quotes

PETER MILLER, COMMA TO THE TOP, Winner: “He’s going to the (CashCall) Futurity (Dec. 18) but turf is a nice option for next year and things like that. I didn’t want to train him for six weeks up to the Futurity. He’s a big, heavy horse and he takes some training. That last race (Real Quiet Stakes Nov. 6) was pretty easy on him. I know it’s pretty contrary to popular belief to run horses every three weeks but I thought this horse would benefit from the effort. This horse is a really good horse and he’s just starting to come around. He won real easy and I was really pleased with his performance today. In urban slang, Comma to the Top is an apostrophe. Some kids that can’t say apostrophe say “comma to the top.” It’s a southern thing.”

JIM CASSIDY, SURREY STAR, Third: “We were happy with the way he ran. Joe (Talamo) was saying he was a little hesitant about things and looking around a lot.’’

Notes: Nakatani leads all jockeys with 14 Turf Festival victories…The win was the rider’s fourth in the Generous. His other wins came aboard Contested Bid (1991), Dubleo (2004) and Warning Zone (2006).
