INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 10, 2008) - Longshot Asian Eyes, given a ground-saving trip along the rail, out-ran Summertime in the final furlong to win Thursday's $51,000 allowance/claiming feature by a neck under jockey Martin Pedroza at Hollywood Park.
Asian Eyes, the longest price in the field of five at 13-1, paid $28.80, $10 and $3.40 while helping generate a Pick Six carryover of $91,678 when racing resumes here Friday night.
The 4-year-old chestnut filly covered 6½ furlongs in 1:16.87 to register her first win in three starts since trainer Peter Miller claimed her for $32,000 on behalf of Gary and Cecil Barber last summer at Del Mar.
Summertime, ridden by Victor Espinoza, paid $5.60 and $3. Stablemate Lighten Up Rule, third under Rafael Bejarano, returned $2.20 as the 6/5 betting choice.
The victory was the third for Asian Eyes in 13 starts. The winner's share of $30,600 raised her earnings to $78,980.
