INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 9, 2008) - Pacesetter Moujane easily turned back a challenge from even-money favorite Tutta Bella on the turn for home and went on to score a two-length victory under jockey Alex Solis in the $61,000 allowance/optional claiming feature Wednesday at Hollywood Park.
The victory was the second of the day for trainer Rafael Becerra and the fourth in six 2008 starts for the 4-year-old filly. The chestnut covered 1 1/16 miles on the Lakeside Turf Course in 1:42.13 while rewarding backers with payoffs of $6.60, $4 and $2.20.
Persian Express, who got up in the final strides under Richard Migliore to nab second by a neck over Tutta Bella, paid $7.20 and $2.80. The show price on the favorite with Garrett Gomez up was $2.10.
Moujane, owned by Jane Field, banked $36,600 to increase her earnings to $188,636. She was winless in six starts prior to this year and is four-for-12 overall.
With longshot winners Epitome of a Lady ($55.80) and Box Office Fever ($61.80) in the sequence, there was just one perfect Pick Six ticket - worth $109,588.20.
Jockeys Martin Garcia and Martin Pedroza each rode a pair of winners.
