INGLEWOOD, Calif. (June 26, 2008) - Mostacolli Mort rallied from last at the head of the stretch en route to a 1 ¾-length victory over Tall Texan under jockey Tyler Baze in Thursday's $61,000 allowance feature at Hollywood Park.
Mostacholli Mort covered 1 1/16 miles on Cushion Track in 1:42.48 while rewarding backers with a $9.80 win payoff.
While the victory by Mostacholli Mort was a mild upset, there were some bigger surprises in other Pick Six races as six winning tickets following a two-day carryover were each worth $328,874.80. With a carryover of $747,253.44 entering Thursday's program, an additional $2,196,390 was wagered with the perfect ticket holders divvying up more than $1.9 million.
The biggest upset came in the sixth race when jockey Julio Garcia completed a double aboard 41-1 shot Enlightened Lady. The Henry Moreno-trained filly was the longest shot in the field of eight and paid $84.40.
The record Pick Six pool of $10,870,852.60 was set at Hollywood Park on July 2, 2007, when a record four-day carryover of $3,274,505.48 generated a single-day record Pick Six handle of $7,596,347.12.
In Thursday's second race, apprentice jockey Michael Martinez registered his first North American victory aboard Coronado's Pride for trainer Steve Knapp. Martinez, a 21-year-old native of Panama, is a cousin of jockey Alex Solis.
