Dawn Before Dawn Gives 'Em The Slip To Capture Sunday's Feature; Pick Six Carryover Of $172,556 Awaits Players Wednesday

INGLEWOOD, CA (June 22, 2008)--Showing remarkable courage, Ike and Dawn Thrash's Dawn Before Dawn led throughout to capture Sunday's $70,100 turf feature Sunday at Hollywood Park.

Joel Rosario guided Dawn Before Dawn quickly to the front, opening up three lengths while setting brisk fractions of :22 4/5 and :46 flat through the first half mile. Sailor's Sister and favored Be Glorious moved as a team after her on the far turn but couldn't get by. As the three straightened away in the stretch, Dawn After Dawn found renewed energy and came away from her two pursuers to win by 1 1-4 lengths. Fire 'n Brimstone was late on the scene for second, a nose in front of Sailor's Sister and Be Glorious, who deadheated for the show.

Trained by John Sadler, who earlier in the afternoon saddled third-race winner Simply Run, Dawn Before Dawn finished off the mile in 1:34 3/5 and returned $20.60, $9 and $3.80. Fire n'Brimstone paid $7.40 and $2.60. In the deadheat, Be Glorious and Sailor's Sister both returned $2.10.

Dawn After Dawn, a Kentucky-bred daughter of High Yield, had only earned $35,780 in six previous starts. Sunday's $31,800 winner's prize boosted her bankroll to $67,580. The win was her first of the year.

A series of upsets resulted in no tickets correctly selecting six winners in Sunday's Pick Six. There will be a carryover of $172,556 when racing resumes Wednesday. First post is 1:20.
