Six Graded Winners Among 14 Nominations To American Oaks
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (June 22, 2008) - Six graded/group stakes winners on the turf are among the 14 fillies issued invitations to the seventh running of the $750,000 American Oaks on Saturday, July 5, at Hollywood Park.
The list for the Grade I turf race includes Pure Clan, winner of the Regret Stakes (GIII) at Churchill Downs on June 14; Raw Silk, winner of the Sands Point (GII) at Belmont Park on May 31; Misty Ocean, winner of the Honeymoon Handicap (GII) here June 7; Missit, winner of the Providencia at Santa Anita Park on April 5; Alwajeeha, winner of the Appalachian (GIII) at Keeneland on April 16, and Clearly Foxy, winner of the Natalma (GIII) at Woodbine last September.
Carribean Sunset from the Dermot Weld stable - the third-place finisher Saturday in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Ascot - is also on the outstanding list of 3-year-old fillies.
Others are Annie Skates, third in her last start at the Oaks distance of 1¼ miles at Newbury in England; Backseat Rhythm, third in the 2007 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies and an impressive allowance winner May 23 at 1¼ miles at Belmont Park; Honeymoon runner-up and Melair winner Bel Air Sizzle; Ginger Brew, an entrant in Sunday's Queen's Plate at Woodbine; Sands Point runner-up Life Is Sweet; My Baby Baby, runner-up on turf in the Edgewood at Churchill Downs, and Satan's Circus, a stakes winner on turf in France.
