INGLEWOOD, Calif. (June 18, 2008) - Distant Victory, beaten less than a length when steadied in the final sixteenth in her career debut, cruised to a 3¾-length victory under jockey Victor Espinoza in Wednesday's $50,000 feature at Hollywood Park.
The 3-year-old daughter of Distant View moved into contention while four-wide on the turn for home, gained the lead inside the eighth pole and was not threatened while covering 1 1/16 miles on the Lakeside Turf Course in 1:41.99 as the odds-on favorite.
Wild Fleece, a 13-1 shot ridden by Alonso Quinonez, finished second, while Samantha's Rule was another two lengths back in third with Joe Talamo up.
Distant Victory, trained by Carla Gaines, was moved up to second from third through disqualification in her career debut on Cushion Track here in May. She required no assist Wednesday, paying $3.40 while banking $30,000 to raise her earnings to $39,600.
With a $158,089 Pick Six carryover entering Wednesday's program, an additional $890,823 was wagered. There were nine perfect tickets, each worth $72,519.
