Inglewood, CA (June 13, 2008)--Bad luck certainly wasn't the case for Harris Farms' High Standards on Friday the 13th, as the 6-year-old gelding led throughout to capture the first running of the $75,160 King Glorious Stakes at Hollywood Park.
Joel Rosario coaxed High Standards to an early half-length lead over Barber, disposed of that one on the turn, opened up a commanding lead and cruised to the wire. The post time favorite, El Manuel, rallied from well off the pace for second, 1 1-2 lengths behind the winner. Barber, who was shuffled all the way back to next to last at the quarter pole, re-rallied for third, a half-length back of El Manuel.
A homebred son of High Brite, High Standards set swift interior fractions along the way; :21 4/5, :44 1/5, 1:08 1/5 en route to a final clocking of 1:14 2/5 for the 6 1-2 furlongs on Cushion Track.
In scoring his first victory of the year, High Standards earned $49,080, bringing his lifetime total to $313,657. Overall the Marty Jones trainee has now won six of 16.
In the wagering, High Standards returned $14, $5 and $4.20. El Manuel, who closed at 2-1, returned $4.40 and $3 while Barber paid $5.60 to show.
Racing resumes Saturday featuring the Round Table Handicap at 1 3/4 miles over the turf. First post is 1:20.
