(INGLEWOOD, CA, MAY 9, 2008)--This time the post-race celebration also included a winners circle photo.
Favored Bahama Mama, disqualified out of a win in the Las Cienegas Handicap in her last start, minded her manners en route to a half-length victory over Macadamia in the featured second race, the $63,700 Lawndale Stakes Friday evening at Hollywood Park.
Taking the lead immediately and dictating fractions of :23.76 and :46.48, the 4-year-old daughter of Invincible Spirit turned back several challengers along the way and stopped the clock in 1:10.38 for 6 furlongs on the turf.
David Flores, who aboard for both the disqualification and today's victory, praised the filly. "Today I was very confident," said Flores. I was just trying to give her a breather on the turn and go from there. They were taking shots at her all the way but my filly was much the best."
Bahama Mama, conditioned by James Cassidy, returned $4.60, $2.80 and $2.10 while winning for the sixth time in 19 starts. The $37,980 winner's share brought her career bankroll to $221,773. Macadamia, a fast closing second, paid $4.80 and $2.40, while Missvinski, another half-length back in third returned $2.40.
