26 Students Representing 12 States Selected For 3rd Annual L.A. Times Sports Journalism Workshop Honoring Jim Murray

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 8, 2005) - Twenty-six of the nation's top journalism students will participate in the third annual Los Angeles Times Sports Journalism Workshop, to be held Thursday through Saturday at Times Mirror Square and Hollywood Park.

The workshop, honoring Jim Murray, the late Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist of The Times, culminates with the 16th running of the $350,000 Jim Murray Memorial Handicap on Saturday. Thirteen horses have been nominated to the Grade III event over 1 1/2 miles on the Lakeside Turf Course.

Sports editor Bill Dwyre and other members of his staff selected the workshop participants, who will compete for paid freelance opportunities with The Times. Twenty schools from 12 states are represented.
