I'll Show Them Wins Feature, Helps Set Up $96,527 Pick Six Carryover

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 2, 2009) – Glen Hill Farm’s I’ll Show Them, given a comfortable stalking trip by jockey Martin Garcia, remained perfect in two starts by closing from third in the final furlong to score a one-length victory over Gretsky in Thursday’s $50,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Hollywood Park.

I’ll Show Them, a 6-1 outsider, covered one mile on the Lakeside Turf Course in 1:34.01 while rewarding backers with payoffs of $15.40, $7.40 and $6.20. Gretsky paid $9.80 and $7.60, while the show payoff on Backbackbackgone was $4.80. Favorite Cleisthenes finished fifth in the field of ten 3-year-olds.

Streaking Gozzip Girl Leads Strong Out-Of-Town Contingent Against Seven Locally-Based Fillies In $700,000 American Oaks

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 2, 2009) — New York filly Gozzip Girl, a winner of three straight races on turf, will attempt to become the fifth straight invader to win the $700,000 American Oaks on Sunday at Hollywood Park.

The daughter of Dynaformer will be ridden by New York-based Hall of Fame jockey Kent Desormeaux, who was a regular at Hollywood Park when he rode Ticker Tape in 2004 — the last local winner of the Grade I event.

Weld Aims For Second American Oaks Score

Internationally renowned trainer Dermot Weld from Ireland saw Rare Ransom draw post five in a field of 14 Thursday during a Beverly Hills luncheon for the $700,000, Grade I American Oaks at 1 ¼ miles on the Hollywood Park turf Sunday.

Weld hoped that Rare Ransom fares as well as another Irish invader, Dimitrova, did when she won the race in 2003.

Whatsthescript Carries High Weight Of 120 Pounds As He Defends Title Saturday In American Handicap

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 1, 2009) — Whatsthescript, a 29-1 upset winner a year ago, will carry high weight of 120 pounds Saturday as he defends his title in the 70th running of the American Handicap on the Independence Day program at Hollywood Park.

The Irish-bred, owned by Tommy Town Thoroughbreds, will be making his second 2009 start in the Grade II American, which will be contested at 1 1/8 miles on the Lakeside Turf Course. Whatsthescript finished fourth in his season debut on Memorial Day, beaten less than one length in the Shoemaker Mile.

Seven Invaders Arrive For American Oaks

New Zealand trainer Wayne Hillis is a man of his word. “When I was here with Boulevard of Dreams five years ago, I told Marty after the race that I would be back,” said Hillis Wednesday morning from the isolation barn in 50 South at Hollywood Park.

Boulevard of Dreams finished seventh behind winner Ticker Tape in the 2004 American Oaks but Hillis has higher hopes for Puttanesca in the $700,000, Grade I test at 1 ¼ miles on turf Sunday.

Fourth Of July Action At Hollywood Park Begins Friday Night With Flawlessly Stakes

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 1, 2009) ― The Fourth of July weekend begins with night racing and a field of 12 closely-matched 3-year-old fillies in the ninth running of the $100,000 Flawlessly Stakes on Friday at Hollywood Park.

The Flawlessly, at one mile on the Lakeside Turf Course, will run as the seventh race on the eight-race progam which begins at 7:05 p.m.

Race Track Chaplaincy Of America Issues Call For 2009 White Horse Award Nominees

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 1, 2009) ― The Race Track Chaplaincy of America (RTCA) today announced that August 31, 2009, is the nominations deadline for the 2009 White Horse Award, which recognizes a racing-related heroic act on behalf of human or horse.

Bestowed annually since 2003, the White Horse Award will be presented at the White Horse Award Luncheon on November 5, 2009, at Santa Anita Park, the day before the start of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

Black Mamba Successfully Defends Beverly Hills Title

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (June 28, 2009) — Defending champion Black Mamba, third at the head of the stretch, gradually wore down the leaders and caught Charming Legacy just before the wire to win the $150,000 Beverly Hills Handicap by a head under jockey Garrett Gomez on Sunday at Hollywood Park.

Black Mamba, a 6-year-old New Zealand-bred mare, covered 1 ¼ miles on the Lakeside Turf Course in 1:59.72 under high weight of 120 pounds while snapping a five-race winless streak dating to last summer.
